Erano app normalissime — lettori PDF, app per pulire il telefono, tool per migliorare le prestazioni. Eppure nascondevano un meccanismo che trasformava il tuo smartphone in uno strumento per truffare gli inserzionisti pubblicitari, senza che tu lo sapessi.
I ricercatori di HUMAN Security hanno scoperto una campagna chiamata Trapdoor: 455 app Android compromesse, presenti sul Play Store ufficiale di Google, scaricate complessivamente circa 24 milioni di volte in tutto il mondo.
Come funzionavano
Una volta installata l’app, succedevano due cose all’insaputa dell’utente:
- In background (cioè in modo invisibile): l’app simulava clic su annunci pubblicitari per guadagnare soldi, trasformando il tuo telefono in una macchina per produrre clic fantasma.
- In modo ingannevole: mostrava falsi avvisi che sembravano aggiornamenti di sistema o notifiche ufficiali. Se ci cliccavi, partivano automaticamente richieste verso siti controllati dai truffatori — e potenzialmente si apriva la porta ad altre app pericolose.
Le app più a rischio erano di queste categorie
- Lettori e visualizzatori PDF
- App per pulire la memoria del telefono (cleaner, booster)
- Tool per ottimizzare le prestazioni (battery saver, speed booster)
- File manager e gestori di archivi
- Scanner di codici QR
Se hai app di questo tipo installate da sviluppatori sconosciuti o poco noti, è il momento di controllarle.
Come verificare e pulire il telefono adesso
Il metodo più semplice è usare Google Play Protect, lo strumento di sicurezza integrato in tutti gli Android:
- Apri il Play Store
- Tocca l’icona del tuo profilo in alto a destra
- Vai su Play Protect
- Premi Scansiona — Google rileverà automaticamente le app problematiche ancora presenti
In alternativa, vai su Impostazioni → App, cerca app delle categorie sopra elencate che non ricordi di aver installato, controlla il nome dello sviluppatore cercandolo online: se non trovi nulla, disinstalla senza esitare.

La regola rimane sempre la stessa: se non sai a cosa serve un’app installata sul tuo telefono, disinstallala. Non costa nulla, e il telefono ringrazierà.
